CBYC Racing Resources: Important Knots

On a modern sailing yacht, knot tying is dying art - now there are clutches, cleats, winches and blocks that do the work. But there are some simple knots which are good to know before you come aboard

	Bowline	General loop knot. Super-strong and reliable (if tied correctly)
	Cleat Hitch	Tying boat to dock cleat or generally tying anything to cleat
	Figure-of-Eight	Tightened to create stopper knot
	Clove Hitch	Attaching fenders to boat (on lifelines etc)
	Rope Coil	Gather and store lines, cleaning up the deck after racing, or preparing spinnaker sheets before race
