Professional Services

Management

The marina has been owned and operated by two generations of the Steenbakkers family for over 35 years. Hub has achieved the demanding Certified Marina Manager (CMM) designation from the Association of Marina Industries. The depth of experience shows in the skills that they bring to the business and the attention that they pay to every part of the marina. The family lives on site and invest the same enthusiasm and pride in the marina that they provide for their own home.

Launching & Hauling Boats
Haul Out

We lift more than 400 boats each season and step or destep almost as many masts.  Over time, our crews have gained a reputation for professionalism, knowledge, care and safety that brings our customers back year after year.

Launch Crane

Our 65-ton Linkbelt crane is permanently kept on site offering several advantages to our boaters:

  • Flexible launch and haul out schedules from mid April through the end of October.
  • A quick response to emergency situations when a boat must be hauled for repairs.
  • The ability to accommodate temporary haul outs for marine surveys.
  • Convenient service for boaters trucking their vessels to and from Lake Ontario.
  • The highest Bosun’s chair on the lake when mast head problems require attention.

Mast Stepping

We operate a custom built mast crane with precision control for handling the delicate task of stepping masts while protecting your sensitive mast head instruments.  Masts are stored on wooden bunks during the winter season.

Winter StorageWinter Storage

We have the capacity to store approximately 200 boats during the winter. The facilities are well lit and are in use daily with the owners living on site. Combined with our reputation for careful boat handling, it has meant that we have been full to capacity for several years. We therefore give priority to our summer docking customers although we do maintain a waiting list for non seasonal customers who would like to keep their boats with us during the winter months. Each fall during haul out activities we arrange for a professional pressure washing firm to provide hull cleaning for those boaters who wish to avail themselves of the service.

Boat Services

Marina management concentrates on providing an ideal docking, boat handling and storage facility. We do not provide boat maintenance or repair services.  Boat owners are permitted to carry out their own work and there is no surcharge for outside contractors working on site.  We can recommend local service experts to care for your boat and we regularly monitor customer feedback on their performance.  All contractors must check in with the office, be properly insured and have a demonstrated competence in providing quality service.

Docking Assistance

Docking a boat is often an adventure in itself. Each time is a bit different and on occasion, a major challenge, even for the experienced boater. We monitor VHF channel 68 and ask that boaters call ahead for assistance if they are the least bit concerned about the conditions. We often find that the friendly folks on your docks are also there to lend a hand. Indeed, when a boat is having difficulty, it is not uncommon to see a dozen or more able hands materialize out of nowhere to insure a safe arrival.

Dock Watch

Many boats spend much of their time patiently waiting for their owners to arrive. They are not, however, alone.  We provide daily dock watch, keeping an eye on all the boats and calling owners if there is something that needs attention – from damp dinghies to fraying lines to sinking boats!  We can also provide special attention when you leave your boat unattended for extended periods of time.

Mast ShippingMast Shipping

Each fall we arrange for the shipment of masts from the marina to Catskill, New York for those sailors who are taking their vessels south through the New York canal system.  Understanding that the trip requires destepping and stepping your mast, the incremental cost of shipping may far outweigh the cost and inconvenience of taking the mast with you.

Destepping can happen any time up until the week after Labour Day when masts are loaded onto a truck and shipped to Catskill NY.  Skippers will make their way down the Hudson Canal to meet up with their mast at Hop O'Nose marina, a full service transient marina with pool, showers, laundry, picnic area and restaurant on premises.

The truck can carry 6-8 masts. In order to keep the costs reasonable, we need to have commitments from at least six skippers by about the first of August. Please call or email us of your potential interest so that we can get another group together next year.  We would be glad to send along the detailed instructions.
